Green Tea Extract Product Buyer’s Guide (updated September 2024)

Now Foods Thermo Green Tea™ Review

Now Foods is a well-known supplement brand and therefore we were excited to investigate their formulation of a Green Tea Extract product. There are two versions of this popular supplement that this manufacturer sells – the regular 400 mg capsule and the 700 mg capsule. While the 400mg capsule may be more enticing to consumers due to its lower price tag, its lower efficacy deemed it unworthy in our eyes. Instead, we will focus on reviewing Now Foods Thermo Green Tea.

We were happy to see that this product is manufactured in the USA and has a GMP certification but it’s ultimately the formula that gets you the results, so does this product have what it takes?

Is Now Foods Thermo Green Tea Effective?

In order to discern whether or not this supplement is effective, we must look at the amount of polyphenols, catechins and EGCG found in each serving. In the case of Now Foods Thermo Green Tea, a daily serving is 1 which contains 700 mg, including 350 mg EGCG. While this is higher than some products we have reviewed, it is less than some others. Unfortunately, we aren’t given information about the amounts of polyphenols or catechins.

Thermo Green Tea would have benefitted from the inclusion of a bioavailability enhancer such as the patented and proven BioPerine®. Such an ingredient would have increased this product’s efficacy and benefits.

The reviews were mainly positive. Though few reported not experiencing any results, the majority were satisfied with their experience. Our concern is that some of the positive effects from taking this, such as feeling more energized, will decline overtime as the body becomes accustomed to the caffeine content. That said, there is a decent portion of EGCG to protect against free radicals and oxidative stress.

Is Now Foods Thermo Green Tea Safe?

In general, this product is marketed as natural and safe. There are no mentioned side effects but there is a warning that this should be taken with food and one should consult their doctor before taking this if they are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition, especially if they have a liver disease. In general, one should consult a health care professional before making any significant changes in their diet or lifestyle, such as starting a supplement.

Summary

Now Foods had the right idea by formulating their product with a high dosage of 700 mg Green Tea Extract, including 350 mg EGCG. We would have liked for them to also disclose the amount of polyphenols but alas that was not to be shared. We also would have liked for the definite amount of caffeine to be on the label instead of a range up to 7 mg of caffeine. Finally, this product can be purchased at a decent price and comes with a return policy. Unfortunately, the return policy only applies to new, unopened bottles that were purchased via the manufacturer’s website. Additionally, returns will not be accepted after 30 days.
